The only sustainability rules connected with coastal angling in Poland refer to ecological aspects (closed seasons and protected areas). Thus, one of the most important outcomes of the CATCH project is the sustainable coastal angling rules, referring to the social and economic aspects.

Several regulations concerning closed seasons, the minimum length of the targeted fish species and the maximum catch quota per day were established, according to the regulation of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development dated 6 July 2015, applying to perch, pike, roach, bream, asp, pikeperch and sea trout.

 

REGULATION OF THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT 

The dimensions and seasons of marine organisms caught in the recreational fishing, the methods and conditions for the recreational fishing

Perch (Perca fluviatilis)

  • protected length up to 20 cm
  • 6 kg per person at 1 day

Pike (Esox lucius)

 

  • protected period:
    • Gdańsk Bay 1 January to 15 May
    • Other marine waters (tot he west from 15°23ʹ14ʺ E) 1 January to 30 April
  • protected length up to 50 cm
  • max 6 fish per person at 1 day

 

Roach (Rutilus rutilus)

  • protected length up to 20 cm

 

Bream (Abramis brama)

  • protected length up to 40 cm
  • max 10 fish per person at 1 day

 

Asp (Aspius aspius)

  • protected length up to 40 cm

 

Seatrout (Salmo trutta trutta)

  • protected period:
    • 15 September to 30 November at sea waters up 4 Nautical miles from the shore
      • 15 September to 31 December at marine internal waters and in the borders of harbors in: Darłowo, Dźwirzyno, Kołobrzeg, Łeba, Rowy, Ustka.
    • 25 September to 31 December at marine internal waters on the west from 15°23ʹ14ʺE
  • protected length up to 50 cm
  • max 2 fish per person at 1 day

 

Zander (Sander lucioperca)

  • protected period:
    • 25 March to 10 May on the west from 16°40’00” E
    • 10 April to 31 May between 16°40’00”a 19°21’00” E
    • 20 April to 10 June on the east from 19°21’00”E
  • protected length up to 45 cm
  • max 6 fish per person at 1 day

 

Cod (Gadus morhua)

  •  protected length up to 35 cm,
  • max. 14 fish per person at 1 day (it doesn’t apply tot he anglers who fish at sea from the boat and the licence is payed by the ship owner)

 

Salmon (Salmo salar)

  • protected period:
    • 15 September to 30 November at sea waters up 4 Nautical miles from the shore
  • 2 fish per person at 1 day

 

Eel (Anguilla anguilla)

  • protected period:
    • 15 June to 15 July at Polish internal marine waters and Polish economical zone
  • 2 fish per person at 1 day

 

Garfish (Belone belone)

  • 10 fish per person at 1 day

 

European flounder (Platichthys flesus)

  • protected length up to 35 cm

 

European plaice (Pleuronectes platessa)

  • protected length up to 25 cm
