The main angling season differs according to fish species, but also depends on the region within the area. Thus, the area provides all-year-round angling opportunities. The most important fish species and those most appreciated by anglers in Lithuania are zander, pike, perch, bream, roach, silver bream, asp, chub, rudd, smelt and burbot.
The most popular angling season is from April to June and from August to October. Also in the winter season ice fishing is very popular, especially in the Curonian Lagoon to catch burbot (Lota lota), smelt (Osmerus eperlanus) and perch (Perca fluviatilis). In early spring, in Klaipėda Channel one can fish for Baltic herring (Clupea harengus membras). On the Baltic Sea in spring or autumn, from ships, amateur anglers catch flatfish (Pleuronectes platessa baltica), Baltic herring (Clupea harengus membras), cod (Gadus morhua callarias), halibut (Scophthalmus maximus) and salmon (Salmo salar).
